Moonlit Mugz opened in 2003, founded by vampire Damon Nocturne, who sought stability after a turbulent past. Using old savings, he bought land in 2001 and built the café mostly on his own in a developing area known for its mix of wanderers and species.
Damon wanted a quiet, structured space that he could control and use for income. A café fit all those needs, allowing him some interaction without overwhelming contact.
The name came from a moment with Damon’s first hire, a young werewolf named Hadeon Lycidas. During a moonlit discussion, Hadeon misheard and combined “moonlight” and “mugshots” into “Moonlit Mugz.” Damon accepted the quirky name.
Initially for humans, the café’s purpose shifted in 2004 as Hadeon brought in supernatural friends. It soon became a neutral spot for diverse magical beings, prompting Damon to adjust the space and menu accordingly.
Moonlit Mugz earned a reputation for its welcoming, lived-in feel — yellow walls, mismatched furniture, soft lighting, and a small staff. Its atmosphere was cozy and unique, with minimal magic but lots of heart.
By 2005, it had a dual identity: a quiet café by day, a lively night-lounge by instinct. Performances became common, led by Eder Evangelou, a flamboyant merman whose shows attracted a wide magical audience.
Though never officially a lounge, Moonlit Mugz evolved into a hybrid space with music and events, while still serving Damon’s original goal of creating a controlled, peaceful environment.
Today, Moonlit Mugz continues to draw a mix of humans and supernatural beings — some for coffee, some for shows, many for the warmth and sense of belonging it offers.

Backstory﹕Hadeon Lycidas was born the youngest son of a powerful werewolf alpha in the Fenrysian Wilds. Unlike his peers, he was gentle and affectionate, lacking the expected hunting instincts and strength, which made him a target of scorn within the pack. Only his older brother, Amarok, supported him—training and protecting him despite the pack’s disapproval. Still, Hadeon was seen as a weakness in a society that valued power above all.
During a harsh winter, the pack secretly abandoned Hadeon during a hunt, blaming Amarok for the decision to sever their bond and convince Hadeon he’d been betrayed. Wandering alone and starving, Hadeon crossed into vampire territory and collapsed near a fortress. There, Damon, a vampire, found him and took him to a human town to recover—an act that changed Hadeon's life.
In the human world, Hadeon discovered a society free of dominance and rigid roles. He embraced its chaos and kindness, quickly adapting and forming bonds, despite some missteps due to his party-loving nature.
He worked various jobs until Damon opened a café, where Hadeon became a daytime waiter and nighttime guitarist for Eder’s shows.
At last, Hadeon found what he had lacked in the wilds: a home where he could simply exist—surrounded by music, lights, and people who accepted him for who he was.
